Rutherfurd Hall

Allamuchy, New Jersey

WCPP has worked on several projects at Rutherfurd Hall, including a creating a community garden and assisting with the maintenance of an outdoor classroom.

Community Garden

The Community Garden at Rutherfurd Hall provides residents of Allamuchy a place to grow fruits and vegetables, while also providing a unique learning experience to the students of Allamuchy’s Mountain Villa School.

The garden holds approximately 35 plots for local residents to plant seasonal fruits and vegetables. It houses seven plots of native plants donated but the National Wildlife Federation. There is also a plot where the first graders of Mountain Villa School plant pumpkins and other vegetables, providing them a unique and invaluable learning experience.

Outdoor Classroom and Nature Trail

The goal of this project was to remove invasive weeds, reestablish pollinator plants, and make the Allamuchy Trail more usable for the community. While working on this project, it became apparent that there was a need for ongoing maintenance and sustainability of this and other projects. This inspired the creation of the Warren County Pollinator Protectors.

Rutherfurd Hall also has an outdoor classroom and nature trail on site. Members from WCPP have worked with the local PTO to clean up the outdoor classroom space by removing overgrown vegetation.
